Field Report

The field is in excellent condition. We’ve experiences a lot of growth this season and the grass is extremely thick in some areas, so mulching blades will be purchased and installed on the tractors. There are several reason for this change - by removing the high-lift blades and replacing them with the mulching blades, the discharged clippings will be considerably finer and can be thrown farther. This should help reduce wind-rows when hoop cutting, and should minimize the discharge on back and forth cutting which will help to reduce the time it takes to vacuum the runway and the pitts area.

Old Business

AMA website has posted the TRUST test. The Knowledge and Safety Test is a congressional mandate in the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2018. All UAS users must pass the test in order to operate a recreational model aircraft (UAS) within the National Airspace System (NAS). To date, only 5 members have taken and passed the test. You are encouraged to complete the test by the end of the year.

The Swap and Fly-in at the field on September 18 was a huge success – we had 18 sellers from outside the Club. Several of the sellers expressed and interest in joining the Club after seeing the site. We purchased 5 indoor kits from TailSpin Hobbies that are available for sale to Club members. TailSpin Hobbies provided 7 upgrade/add-on packages for RealFlite simulator software that are available to Club members at no cost.

A 10% discount will be offered with proof of Club membership for anything purchased from TailSpin Hobbies. Contact the Club Secretary or TailSpin Hobbies (724-727-7223) to place orders.

New Business

Bo Kwasny will contact the local Cub Scout troop to lend a hand with cleaning and staining the benches under the sun shade.

Benches in the pavilion need to be repaired, which will be deferred to Spring 2022.

Tree around the pavilion need to be topped and a couple of them should be cut down – this activity will be addressed at the Fall cleanup tentatively scheduled for November 13. Earlier in the month, we talked to the adjacent property owners about cutting trees at the East end of the field and invited them to come up and take a look and negotiate removal or topping.

Christmas party is tentatively scheduled for Sunday December 4 at 5pm at Rodney’s on Arona Road. An email reminder will be sent to the Club members asking for a head count.
