Field Report

The runway and property are in excellent condition. The new GeoTex runway is now being used on regular basis.  The center seam on the Geotex runway will be sealed and stapled down within the next month – this will finalize the installation. The center seam sealing options will be addressed. We are consulting with roofing contractors to get professional opinion since GeoTex is a roofing material.

We have been advised to a an “X” per FAA standards at both ends of GeoTex runway to identify that it’s not open to and traffic other than RC airplanes.

Boy Scouts Troop 57 was invited to the field on August 16th for an introduction to RC flying. Many of the Scouts brought RC cars and had a great time driving around the south field. They asked the Club if they could schedule a Camp out and practice survivor games over a Friday and Saturday. A motion was made and seconded to allow the Scouts to schedule this activity at the field with the stipulation than no RC cars will be allowed on the GeoTex runway at any time.

The Club will be negotiating with the Sewickley Rec Center to determine cost and schedule for indoor flying at Herminie every other Friday starting mid November through March 2023.

Old Business

A 20” x 16” x 10” steel NEMA 65 enclosure box for the first aid kit and fire extinguisher has been received from Amazon. Once this enclosure has been modified for a combination lock it will be permanently installed in the pavilion.

New Business

VP Jim Kealey announced that the FAA will be accepting applications for site FRIA certifications sometime in the future. The original date was mid September but has been delayed, and CBOs have not yet been identified. More information will be made available when it actually happens.

RF locators are available for $40.00 each. The transmitters are 1” diameter x ½” thick with velcro female backing and are easily transferable to any plane. Contact Secy Eric Haberman to document purchase. They are also available at the business meetings.

The next Club business meeting will be held at the field at noon on September 25 followed by the season’s final family picnic.
